The differences were: The south believed that slavery was acceptable and that slaves were property and did not consider them people. The north thought that people should not be kept as slaves so, they made their states free. The south, however, did not make their states free and in the south it was still legal to own and work slaves. Some were plantations, but very few were that size. The owners needed people to work on them. They used Africans because their skin was dark, and they would be noticed if they tried to run away. White indentured servants could easily run to another state & change their name.
