Stalin followed the policies that:
-Religion was not necessary and largely dounounced.
-Harsh punishment solved issues.
-Rebellion was intolerable and any threats were to be eliminated.
-Industrialization
Stalin's policy can be described by two terms: "collectivisation" and "industrialisation". The first one was aimed at agrarian sector and its focus was on creation of large communal agrarian entities which should have replaced single farmers. Therefore collectivisation has largely undermined the position of a farmer in Russia in 20th century and impact of this policy can still be felt in our days in this country.
Industrialisation was just that - the amassing of industrial power by pouring money and resources into heavy industry at the expense of other spheres of industry.
Stalin was known primarily for his Five Year Plans, designed to industrialize the Soviet economy and "collectivization" which was designed to combine small individually run farms into larger farms run either by the former owners collectively (kolkhozes) or by the government (sovkhozes).
