To end the war sooner, saving Americans lives. -Apex
The USA atomic bombed Hiroshima (1) and Nagasaki (2) after Japan refused to surrender. Japan surrendered after the bombing of Nagasaki. More people died when Tokyo (1st) and Dresden (2nd) then died at Hashim (3rd) and Nagasaki (4th). The atomic bombing of the two cities brought the war to a speedy end and saved countless lives.
Because they wanted the Japanese to give up, but they didn't even though Germany had so they bombed Hiroshima.

Yes, when the Americans bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima the Japanese emperor surrendered due to the many lives lost.

To bring the war to a quick end and save lives which they did. Japan surrendered after Nagasaki was atomic bombed.
The United States bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end World War Two. If they hadn't dropped them, American and Russian troops would have had to invade even further into Japan costing millions of lives. Of course that is a very hypocritical act. The two bombs killed hundreds of thousands of innocent lives.
To scare the Russians; Hiroshima and Nagasaki were in fact harmless targets. My Japanese friends told me the towns never even produced soldiers that saw combat duty, mostly laborer types. What makes the Japanese angry, is that the U.S bombed harmless cities, for the sake of a political demonstration. Of course the story was "so that 1 million American soldier's lives, and 2 million Japanese won't be sacrificed."
Japan had a policy of Never Surrender No Matter what. It was necessary first to burn Japan cities from the air, and then to drop 2 atomic bombs in order to force Japan to surrender. If Japan had been invaded in November 1945, it probably would have cost 1 Million Allied lives, and 2 Million Japanese lives! Bombing Japan and getting them to surrender saved far more lives than it killed.
