Add to that the fact that only the eldest Viking son inherited all of the father's wealth, leaving the younger sons to look for other means of support.
well specifically the viking were looking for food and land because they were running low on it so they traveled to america and fought the Indians and got what they wanted and
they wanted all the land they could get, they where savage beasts who would do anything for money, (and wine)
Vikings traveled originally to get loot to take home. Later they began to settle and conquer local peoples.
