What will cause a 1990 Cadillac Deville to back fire when you turn on headlights or any accessery I have replaced Battery Alt still runs rough and backfires at times?

Not sure about the relationship to the headlights, but I've had the same problem for years. After replacing relays, plugs, wires, distributor cap,.......... with no success I almost gave up. But then, a great mechanic came along and found it was the computer that was bad. $400 later my car runs really well. Good luck.

Something isn't timed properly, either the timing chain or the igniton.

have you replaced the dimmer switch? if not that may be the problem. I had the same problem in reverse( brights worked but headlights didn't) water damaged the dimmer switch on the steering column once I replaced it all was good.
