What happens if a food chain breaks down?

If the food chain is disturbed animals will go hungry. A disruption in the food chain will mean some animals go without the food that they need, while the disruption will cause over population of other animals that will result in food shortages.

When part of a food web or chain is broken what will happen is that all the animals on that chain will die. This is because if some animal eats the animal that is dead and it's the only thing they eat, it will die of hunger and then some animal that eats that animal will also die of hunger and then it will continue happining and in the end every animal will die, which is very sad.

Many different animals will be affected, possibly including humans. For example:

Nuts->Mouse->Owl

Let's say someone introduced a drug into the environment that poisoned nuts, the mice would begin to die from eating nuts, as well as other animals (including humans). The owls would begin to eat other animals and would eventually die off when there was nothing left to eat.

So, basically, if you disrupt a food chain, HUGE changes occur that could even kill off every animal in existence.

MORAL: Don't poison nuts ;)
