The brakes will not work correctly!

From there it depends on in what way it failed.

Failure can:

  • Cause the rear brakes to not work at all
  • Cause the rear brakes to lock uncontrollably
  • Cause the brake fluid to leak out.
  • And if its just sticky cause a nasty combination of the above.

My Renault Fuego had to have the bloody poorly designed valve repaired about every six months. It shut off the rear brakes when it failed.

Why do rear brakes not work while the front brakes do work on my 1994 Silverado truck?

First check to see if the brake lines are not crimped or damaged and still are still connected to the wheel cylinder in the backing plate. If the lines are in good shape it is probably a problem with the proportioning valve. How does a brake pressure control valve work?

the brake control valve is used to control the amount of hydrauic pressure form the hydraulic system to the brake system through the metering valve.

Will the disc brake set off of a late model s10 truck work on a 65 Chevy truck?

With the proper adapter bracket, yes. The wheels will go from 6 lug to 5 lug. You will need to change the master cylinder and add on an adjustable proportioning valve.

1989 Chevrolet truck k1500 i can not get the back brakes to bleed and i can not get the brake fuel to go to back brakes help please thanks?

Your vehicle may have a valve that adjusts for loads and prevents the rear brakes from locking up. There is a bleeder on this valve that needs to be bled before fluid will reach the rear cylinders. This valve is located above the rear axle and has brake lines running to the rear cylinders. The master cylinder may also have a problem. Loosen the lines at the master cylinder to see if any pressure is being generated from the cylinder. The brake proportioning valve may also have a blockage, but this is very uncommon. You will have to work your way back to locate the blockage if the master cylinder is in good condition.Your vehicle may have a valve that adjusts for loads and prevents the rear brakes from locking up. Disc brake assembly install for 1967 Chevelle?

It's pretty straightforward. You will need to change the spindles, brake lines, brake hoses and master cylinder. You will also need to install a proportioning valve from a disc brake car, preferably another Chevelle. Stick with stock calipers and rotors if you intend on using stock wheels because many of the aftermarket disc brake setups have larger rotors and calipers that will NOT work with stock wheels.

How do you know if your rear brakes are working in a 1992 jeep Cherokee lmt if not what can be the problem the brake master cylin and how do you know if it is.Or ould it be the brake adjustment?

Roll slowly and have someone watch while you apply the brakes hard enough to lock all four wheels. If the rears are not working, adjust them, If that doesn't work replace the proportioning valve.

Where is proportioning valve on 1988 ford e-150?

Open the hood. Look at the master cylinder. Just to the left of the brake fluid cap and about 2 inches below the cap you will find it. There are two brake lines leaving the left side of the master cylinder. The brake line that is closet to the fire wall that goes into the master cylinder goes into a large hexagonal fitting that is connected to the master cylinder. Inside of that large fitting is the brake proportioning valve. Do you find that your brake pedal goes to the ground when you are backing up? Do you find that the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor without warning while at a stop? These may be symptoms of a bad valve, especially if you have done all sorts of work on the brakes and still have problems. My understanding is that no parts are available. Re-builders of the valves give no warranty. Any other questions re: same issue? email bob6598604@earthlink.net

How does car brake work?

You press a pedal that pushes a ram inside a hydraulic master cylinder, this increases pressure of hydraulic fluid in the lines that lead down to individual brake cylinders on each wheel. These cylinders push out a piston and that increases pressure on the disc pad or brake shoe. -In modern vehicles there are many ancillary parts that I've not mentioned for simplicity. These will almost always include a booster, a proportioning valve and an ABS system.

Does a brake booster have to be adjusted if it isn't what will happen?

No adjustment should be necessary on your brake booster. These are a work or fail item except for a check valve in the hose on some models. The brake master cylinder that usually mounts to the front on some vehicles may need to be bled but that is pretty rare these days.

Why are your front brakes the only ones that work despite installation of new front and rear brakes in the 1993 Chevy Lumina Z34?

The master cylinder may be at fault (internal seals bad). The proportioning valve may be at fault (frozen). The system may not be bled properly (air in system). The rear wheel brake cylinders may be at fault (frozen).

How do you fix rear brake problems?

That depends, what are the rear brake problems? If the brake shoes are worn down, they can be replaced. Whenever replacing brake shoes make certain that you check the drum and have it "turned" if there are any ridges. If the brake shoes are out of adjustment but not worn out it might just be that your self-adjusting mechanism is faulty. Check that the star adjuster is not corroded and can turn properly. If there is any kind of fluid present it could be a wheel seal and the differential is leaking oil into the brakes, lubricant doesn't work well with brakes and will cause them to not work, or it could be a brake slave cylinder leaking brake fluid. It can also be caused by a faulty brake proportioning valve which you will find bolted to the inside of the frame directly behind the front drivers tire. If this is the problem i suggest paying someone to make the repair for you.

What is the purpose of the brake equalizer valve?

It is used to equalizer the brake pressure from front to back. So that when you hit the brakes they all work at the same time and one does not grab before the other.
