What will mental illness do to you?

The brain is the physical representation of the mind. The health of the brain depends on the state of the mind. The state of the conscious mind is dependent on the state of the subconscious mind therefore the health of the conscious mind and brain is dependent on the level of truth in the subconscious mind.

The mind defaults to the conscious when the subconscious is not present. If the subconscious is present, the decision making process occurs without a person being consciously aware of it. If a person does not subconsciously think (believe, understand, perceive) that dogs are friendly, the person will consciously think about dogs (worry) if placed in an environment containing dogs. If a person subconsciously thinks that dogs are friendly, the person will not consciously think (worry) about dogs if placed in an environment containing dogs.

An unhealthy mind and therefore unhealthy brain is characterized by excessive conscious thought .
A healthy mind and therefore healthy brain is characterized by limited conscious thought (peaceful).

The nature of thought in the mind can change, therefore the brain is relatively plastic. Young minds and therefore brains are the most plastic. As information is transmitted from the environment through the conscious mind and into the subconscious, the subconscious gradually restricts contradicting thought resulting in a more rigid mind and therefore brain. Mental illness changes the relative plasticity of the brain.

Medical intervention for mental illness attempts to change the mind and therefore the brain by changing the brain.

Psychological intervention for mental illness attempts to change the mind and therefore the brain by changing the mind.

The subconscious thought patterns of a client suffering from mental illness are further reinforced by the physical event in the brain creating the inability to stop the subconscious and conscious thought patterns. A distorted perspective of the world results in negative emotions and behaviour that cannot consciously be controlled potentially leading to suicide.
