What does Occupy LA mean?
Occupy LA is the Los Angeles-based subset of the larger 'Occupy' movement which began with Occupy Wall Street in New York, New York and has now spread around the world. The American 'Occupy' is a non-violent protest movement which consists of protestors occupying a public space, holding marches with signs and chants, and often establishing some temporary infrastructure such as food distribution and libraries. The main goals of the movement are greater income equality and accountability for the upper 1% of American income earners, especially those in the banking industry.

When and where did the OCCUPY movement begin?
The Occupy Movement began in September 2011, with the occupation of Wall Street in New York as a protest against the fact that roughly 1% of the world's population owns and manipulates the world's wealth as well the 99% from whom it derives that wealth. Towards the end of November 2011 the Occupy Movement had spread to just under 1000 cities in 82 countries all over the planet. The Occupy Movement is a protest against the transnational corporations and companies (including financial institutions, like banks) whose only motivation is greed and profiteering, and who do not care about the preservation of the world's diverse cultures and environments, or the exploitation of the world's precious resources, or the continuing pollution of the planet and the irreversible damage that is being done to the delicate biosphere in which we all must live. One of the demands of the Occupy Movement is that governments devise an international financial transactions tax as one measure by which some of the wealth of the 1%, the transnationals, will be returned to those from whom it has been extracted, namely the 99%. Generally, the Occupy Movement calls for a new kind of capitalism, one that is humane, ethically-based, and which holds as a priority the well-being of the planet and all its living populations, whether human, animal, or plant, as one interactive and living organism.

Does the conservative police state actually think they can deter the occupy movement by using violent force?
First of all, there is no "police state", conservative or otherwise. To think so is most likely a result of being influenced by others who are sociologically impaired. If there WAS a police state in America, the for sure would not be any occupy movement, whatsoever. I have never heard of any police force wanting to deter the occupy movement, but rather, to enforce the needed laws of sanitation, noise restriction, murder, rape, maiming, and so forth. If the police forces were to ignore the Constitution and other laws, you had better believe that violent force would have already been used, and it has not.
