Without a date it's considered a "cull" or filler coin with no extra value.

The original design had a flaw in it - the date was higher than the rim of the coin so it wore off first. The problem was that nickel is a very hard metal and it took a number of years for the flaw to be noticed and corrected. By that point there were millions of worn buffalo nickels in circulation.

Your coin is unfortunately considered to be a "cull" and is worth only 15 to 25 cents as a curiosity or conversation piece. To explain:

First, Indian head nickels don't contain any silver. Like all nickels except those minted during WWII, they're made of an alloy of 25% nickel and 75% copper, so they have no precious-metal value.

Second, Indian head nickels had a design flaw that made the date area susceptible to rapid wear. Knowing a coin's date is critical to establishing its value, so it's not possible to estimate a price for a coin whose date is worn off.

There is no one answer to this question, because value depends on a number of factors such as the date, mint mark, and condition. The collector value is at least 10 cents, but for a specific price, ask about a specific coin.

Indian Head Nickels (with a buffalo on the back) were only minted from 1913 to 1938, so I have to assume you have something else -- perhaps a Liberty Head Nickel (with a big "V" on the back)? A well-worn 1891 Liberty Head Nickel is worth about $3.00
