Check your engine error codes. It may be that your transmission range sensor is going out of whack, and you will need to replace it. Or, it could be several other things, but the only way to find out is to check the engine error codes when the check engine light is on.
You can borrow a code reader at many auto parts stores if you give them your license. You just plug it into a clip near the fusebox under the steering wheel.
nothing unless the mechanics took your car off roading
check your timing belt
Low transmission fluid, transmission on it's way out.
Yes, it could cause flooding, that's when too much fuel gets into the engine. You need to replace the pressure regulator.
The 1996 Mystique has OBDII (On Board Diagnostics Level 2) and requires a command from a "code reader" or OBDII monitor. It can also be shut off by disconnecting the battery for a long enough period of time, apparently - but I have an Auto XRay unit, so I just use that. If the cause is not repaired, the CEL WILL come back on.
I had the same problem on my 1996 Pontiac firebird, they told me that my ignition cylinder had went out. Maybe you could ask about that, I don't know what would cause that to go out though? I had a similar problem 1998 Mystique LS. It was a burnt out relay. Also the ignition switch (what the key turns on...I'm not a mechanic I think that is what it was called) was worn and I had to replace switch.
it could be a bad lock up torque converter(if equiped with it). vehicle dies when coming to a stop.
Mercury is highly toxic and working with it can cause mercury poisoning.
on the transmission between the firewall and motor on top of transmission a few inches from where the half shaft goes into the transmission. if it goes bad it could cause bad shifting of trans, i replaced mine and it was a pain to get out but my transmission problems went away instantly
no evidence of this is found anywhere
