It is probably the lifters. I suggest using an engine flush and I have had luck with GUNK. Follow the directions on the can. You may have to do it every 30000 miles .
I found that if I put a non Mitsubishi oil filter on my pu would start making that ticking sound
if its carbuetated then its on the motor cause its mechanical
ticking sound in engine is usually not caused by a timing belt ticking is usually caused by worn cam shaft or clifters most cars now have hydraulic lifters. if oil is low it will cause ticking. if a lifter is worn it will cause ticking these should have been ckecked for wear when replacing timing belt
Ticking in an engine generally refers to the valves. If ticking is apparent on a 1994 Chevy Lumina tighten the valves to factory specifications.
Hey Mart==Generally just one valve ticking wouldn't cause a power loss. It deoends on what kind of car and engine you have. It could be an injector ticking which would cause a dead miss. GoodluckJoe
Normally loose tappets will cause a ticking sound in the engine. Depending on if you have mechanical or hydraulic tappets you may need to have them replaced or simply adjusted.
A bad battery, distributor, or fuel relay can all cause the 1991 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 2.4 truck to die after start up.
Check the fuse.
The most likely cause of a ticking sound in a motor is a bad timing belt. A valve out of time can also cause a ticking sound.
Collapsed hydraulic valve lifter? Rocker arm (valves) need adjusting?
Could possibly be a bad lifter.
Its possible that this ticking sound is caused from driving fast for prolong periods. Its possible that its not the engine that is making the sound, but the exhaust system somewhere. I hear a ticking sound if I drive over 140KMh for long periods. It always stops once the car cools. I hopes this helps.
can you elaborate? engine noise? stationary/moving? ticking, tapping or a definite knocking?
A 97 Maxima can have these symptoms because of a bad alternator. If the alternator has low output there can be a ticking and eventually the engine will stop running.
You oil pump is not working?
I had a similar problem in a taurus. I had to replace the alternator.
could be the timing belt
crankshaft seals failure
The cool water hitting your piping hot exhaust makes the metal contract (Shrink) and it makes a ticking noise.
Most likely is knocking. Try next higher octane grade of gasoline.
A faulty gas cap could cause the check engine light to come on but it would not cause a rough idle or engine noises. Start with having your local auto parts store read the codes. The codes will help determine why the check engine light is on.
The cam belt should be changed on a Mitsubishi Triton diesel engine when it becomes worn down. If it wears down too thin, it can break and cause driving issues.
A gasket leaking will cause this noise. Did you torque to the right specs and in the right sequence then retorque after 3 heat cycles.
could be a few things, valves need adjustment or if it's a high mileage engine use a heavier engine oil. maybe the engine requires higher octane gas. have some experienced listen to the engine carefully to determine the cause.
