What would cause antifreeze to leak on ground near reservior and smell like burning when driving?

1996 and up Taurus cars have a problem with cracking on the bottom of the reservoir. I have replaced the tank on all three of my familys Tauruses because two had hairline cracks that would leave antifreeze on the ground near the reservoir.

No. If the themostat is not working the care will run hot if stuck closed and not reach operating temp if stuck open. First check to see if there any sign of leakage on the ground that could mean a bad water pump, hoses, radiator, or freeze plugs. Check the passenger side floor which could mean a bad heater core. Check the engine oil for radiator fliud which will tell you if you have a bad head gasket letting antifreeze into the combustion chamber and out the tail pipe.
