What would cause clutch fluid to leak from the slave cylinder so when you start the vehicle the clutch stays to the floor and is floppy with no resistance?

Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder reservoir (located under the hood, on the drivers side firewall). It's probably empty. You can add DOT-3 Brake fluid to fill it up and it may start working again temporarily after a few pumps. But, it was empty for a reason. You have a fluid leak somewhere. Could be a bad clutch master cylinder or a bad clutch slave cylinder.
