If you follow the brake pedal up behind the dash you should see 2 switches. There should be a plastic piece about the diameter of a nickel mounted to the arm on the pedal, most likely it has broken and fallen out. You probably saw it in the floor but did not realize what it was. I fixed mine by using a round magnet out of a refrigerator clip and put it on the arm so that when the brake pedal is released it will push the actuator on the switch
Check bulbs (double filamented small is for brake lights-large for tailight) Check fuse for stoplight Check stoplight switch
There is a brake light switch or stoplight switch that may be bad on the brake pedal up top.
If you mean the brake lights are stuck on, then check the stoplight switch located on the top of the brake pedal.
If you mean the switch that puts the brake lights on and off when you step on the brake pedal then it's located where the brake pedal is, can't miss it.
Check bulbs they are double filamented smaller for brake lights larger for tailights Check the fuse Check the operation of the stoplight switch
the switch on brake pedal is faulty and needs replacing
Check bulbs - they are double filamented with the smaller used for stop lights Check the stoplight fuse Check the operation of the stoplight switch (usually at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash area)
Check the bulbs Check the stoplight fuse Check the operation of the stop light switch
Blown fuse? Bad stoplight switch? Open wire to brake lights Not ground at brake light sockets? Problem in steering column (turn signal circuitry)?
I just had this problem. It turns out there's a plastic piece on the brake that hits the Stoplight switch. If the Stoplight switch is not depress, the rear park lights (stop light) would stay on.
Perhaps brake lights? Check the stoplight switch at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash area
More than likely, you need to replace the stoplight switch. It is not a diificult change. Look under the dash directly where the brake pedal comes in contact with the dash when it is not depressed. Press the brake and notice the little contact nipple that pops out. That is the stoplight switch. Replace that, and you are good to go!!!
