It could be a variety of things that could cause the CHECK ENGINE to come on. The car's Computer Monitors different sensors so that the car's emission is below smog limits. If the computer saw a reading that was above or below the sensor's limit, it will set the CHECK ENGINE light. Not tightening the gas cap will turn on the light. It might affect driveablity, i.e. rough idle.
In my experience with my Chevy it was a ground wire
with me it was the o2 censer
You need to check all of the mounts. Get a manual to show you where they are.
The vacuum lines for a 2000 Cavalier are located all over the engine bay and under the dash. A break in any line can cause rough running.
What would cause the engine not to restart when hot Chevy Trailblazer 2007?
Low fuel pressure
Engine overheating. Check the radiator for leaks in the hose pipe or radiator, otherwise the water pump is faulty and will need replacing
can a chevy truck with a 350 engine with a tbi cause detonation and pre- ignition?
have you checked your fuses?
Bad heater core.
The 2005 Cavalier could have a fuel leak. Have the entire fuel system checked, as a fuel leak can cause a dangerous fire.
Many different things you need to take it in to a auto zone parts store and they will put a scanner on it for free and give you the codes it has stored and how to fix it.
There are several things that can cause your 1995 Chevy Cavalier transmission not to go into drive or reverse. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. A broken shifting fork will also cause the problem.
I had an 1988 Chevy Cavalier once, and it did the same thing. Turns out, it had a weak engine mount. During braking, the engine would move just enough to cause the plug between the ECM and the wiring harness to separate slightly, causing a short. bad o-rings or not seated and tightened down properly
Blown Head Gasket or Bad Cylinder Head
Black smoke usually means the engine is running too rich. The fuel/air mixture is incorrect. Blue smoke is oil burning.
After repairing the cause of the code, you can clear it with a scan tool.
There could be a vacuum leak somewhere causing the engine to idle too fast. It would also cause the engine to run too lean and possibly burn a piston.
most likely an intake gasket
The 1995 Cavalier could have a stopped up transmission filter, or a vacuum solenoid problem. These would be the two most likely places to cause the problem.
The vent in the gas cap is stopped up. I had this same thing happen to a motorcycle once.
The 1997 Cavalier has two motor mounts, as well as a transmission mount. If the mounts are broken the motor can move around and cause damage to components under the hood.
It sure can.
