Check for a bad fuse. If fuse is fine pop off the switch and check the switch with a voltmeter. Also check for voltage (12 Volt) to the switch with the voltmeter. If all is well to this point move to the roof motor and repeat tests.

It would depend on the type of roof. Do you have a slate roof or a shingled roof? In the Pittsburgh area i would recommend Rick John Roofing. Not sure if they work on slate, but they do work on shingled roofs.
There is a switch on by the sun roof there is also a light in the same console. If the switch does not work there is a manual control inside this panel you can use a flat head screw driver to open and close it with.
Perhaps something in the gear shift that turns on the lights when in reverse position.

The loads on the roof exceed the design or work has been done on the house that has compromised the integrity of that design,ie;interior loadbearing walls removed etc..
The lightning strikes the rod and the rod safely directs the lightning to the ground to keep the house safe.Otherwise,the lightning would discharge onto the roof and likely cause a fire.
