Tingling usually denotes that something is happening to a nerve. Compression of a nerve can occur when pressure is applied over a nerve for a prolonged period, such as habitually leaning on an elbow. Compression of a nerve can also occur due to repetitive motions which can cause some damage to soft tissue, causing it to swell and press on a nerve, also causing muscle ache as well. Compression of a nerve can also occur when calcium deposits in a joint press on a nerve (most nerve plexus are located at joints).

Lack of Potassium. Trying tomato sauce, or any tomato-based product. You could also drink Garorade or Orange Juice. Not enough information is given to make a deduction. Likely possibilities are carpel tunnel or a pinched nerve. There could be a sports injury, such as a pulled tendon. With any of these cases, a slight amount of low-impact exercise should increase your recovery time, so long as the exercise is not repetitive. The fact that it is localized to your right arm decreases the chance of this being related to a chemical, or diet. If this were your left arm, it could be a sign of heart problems. Answer I once had the upper part of my arm ache and the bottom have and hand numb. The doctor said it was muscle fatigue.

It is important that you see a health care professional (doctor or nurse practitioner) to have this assessed, if it persists. The suggestions below from WikiAnswers users are simply suggestions, and there are many other possibilities; if you want a proper diagnosis, you need to be examined.

  • Vascular - There could be some reason for poor circulation to the arm/hand. This is very commonly caused by too much muscle tension in the scalene muscles or the the pec minor muscles. The blood vessels that supply the arm/hand have to pass through these areas, via the subclavian artery, to branch off into the arm. It could also be due to a misalignment of the shoulder. If a shoulder is misaligned in external rotation, it can put a stretch on the blood vessels that pass through that area to supply the arm/hand.
  • Pinched nerve either in your neck, shoulder, or arm. You need to be seen by a doctor before you experience permanent damage.
  • Tendonitis
  • Migraine (hemiplagic migraine)
  • Stroke, Transient Ischemic Attack (mini-stroke)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia
  • Reynauds disease causes constriction of the blood vessels and usually your fingers get numb, turn whitish in color.
  • Angina
  • Repetative Strain Injury, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome- Using a mouse or keyboard, or other tools, in the same position for an extended period of time can be harmful.
  • Cervical Disc Herniations can cause tingling, arm numbness and pain.

Sometimes a neck injury can cause pins and needles in your hand but there are other trapped nerve type causes. Also, these symptoms are associated with angina which is a heart problem that if exists will need to be assessed by your doctor. If you are young and active though it will more than likely be caused by an injury. You need to get it checked by a doctor. Hope this helps.

It could be any number of things, ranging from everyday inconveniences to more serious conditions. Numbness or tingling in arm(s) can be a warning sign of a myocardial infarction (heart attack). But it is possible that a long day at work and falling asleep on your shoulder or arm, can cause tingling. If you experience any more symptoms (weakness, paleness, chest presure, etc) you should see an ER quickly. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Could an extra cervical vertebrae cause pain in the right forearm and fingers?

It is unlikely that an extra cervical vertebrae would directly cause pain in the right forearm and fingers. Pain in the forearm and fingers is more commonly related to issues in the nerves or muscles in the arm, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or a pinched nerve in the neck or wrist. It would be best to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

What would cause the fingers of one hand to go numb and tingly starting in one finger and progressing to the next until all five have experienced this feeling by the time it reaches the fifth?

== == This sounds like a nerve entrapment, where the nerves that supply feeling to the hand are being "pinched" at some point, probably in the lower arm. This needs to be seen by a medical doctor, to have the cause determined and treated.
