What does oxygen do?

Oxygen allow our bodies to breathe and live. The amount of oxygen needed will depend on the activity. For instance, when exercising, you would need more oxygen than if you are sitting at rest.

What happens when your muscles cells run out of oxygen?

Cells that do not require oxygen go through anaerobic respiration, which is a form of cellular respiration that uses fermentation to turn energy into useful energy. There are two types of anaerobic respiration, lactic acid fermentation and alcohol fermentation. Muscle cells do this when they run out of oxygen and go through fermentation instead. The product of this type of fermentation from muscle cells is lactic acid. Lactic acid is toxic and causes soreness and fatigue. Anybody who has been sore after exercise has experienced lactic acid fermentation.

What happens in the body during carbon monoxide poisioning?

Carbon monoxide poisoning prevents red blood cells from carrying out their normal function of transporting oxygen throughout the body. Consequently, all the cells of the body will suffer from lack of oxygen, which will prevent them from carrying out their normal metabolic functions and make them effectively shut down. The brain is the most sensitive to lack of oxygen, and within minutes, will suffer unconsciousness and then death, when deprived of oxygen.

What transports oxygen around the human body?

Oxygen is breathed through the nose or mouth and travels to the lungs through the bronchial tubes, then absorbed through the alveoli into the bloodstream. In the bloodstream the oxygen is transported all over the body by red blood cells. So, red blood cells would be your answer.

What happens in the body cells during repiration?

Respiration is a process of taking in oxygen and giving out of carbondioxide. The oxygen carried by the blood cells transfers oxygen to the tissues and takes up carbondioxide from the tissue.
