Everyone would die. There would be nothing for the primary consumers to eat, and they would die off. Then the secondary consumers would die off because they would have nothing to eat. Everything would eventually die from starvation.

∙ 14y agoIf that specific animal was another animals main food, it could destroy both those species, the second from starvation. And if that second species was another animals main food, the third species could go extinct, and so on...

∙ 12y agoIt often happens that there are more consumers than producers in a local food chain.
The outcome is:
- the consumers change to less attractive, less nutritious, harder to get foods, if available.
- starvation reduces the number of consumers to a sustainable level.
- eventually, the reduced population of consumers allows the producers to regain their production, which allows the consumers to repopulate and the cycle continues.
