What year did Copernicus discover the solar system?
While Nicolaus Copernicus did not actually discover the solar system, he did devise the first heliocentric model of the universe in his book "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres), which was published in 1543.
Copernicus never claimed that the Sun is at the center of the earth. Until Copernicus, it was believed that the ancient Greek philosopher, Ptolemy was correct: that the Earth was at the center of the Universe. In 1512, Copernicus published his first paper that claimed that it was really the Sun that was the center, but of the Solar system, not the universe.
