What year did Shakespeare finish Romeo and Juliet?
An exact date is unknown but Romeo and Juliet was written at some point during the years 1591 and 1595.
Romeo and Juliet is not a foundation. It is not a bank which we can say was founded in such and such a year. Shakespeare probably wrote his play of this name around 1595. Besides being the name of a play, Romeo and Juliet is the name of several stories, a poem, a ballet, an opera, a symphonic poem, and several movies. But not a bank.
William Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet around 1594 - 1596. Romeo and Juliet was a very popular play and still is. Romeo and Juliet were not real even though if you go to Verona, Italy, you will find Juliet's balcony. Virtually the same story had been told by a number of people in Italy, and the couple were described as coming from a number of cities in Italy. Historically, the Capuleti family were from Cremona…
It didn't. When you read, "Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in 1594-1595" it does not mean that it took him two years to write it, it means that he wrote it sometime in those two years, but we are not exactly sure when. Basically, Shakespeare wrote an average of two or three plays a year as far as we know, which would mean it took four to six months per play.
Shakespeare's son Hamnet died at the age of 11 in 1596 but most scholars think Shakespeare had already written Romeo and Juliet by that time, probably one or two years earlier. The first published version of the play came out only a few months after Hamnet's death and was presumably performed a number of times before being published, making 1596 unlikely as the year it was written.
The dating of Shakespeare's plays is notoriously uncertain. The following might have been written in 1596: Midsummer Night's Dream Romeo and Juliet Richard II Merchant of Venice King John Henry IV Part 1 Now it's unlikely that he wrote six plays that year. A lot of people would say that Romeo and Juliet and Richard II were written the year before.
