Many have believed that the Mayans "predicted" the world to come at an end on 2012. This is not so, their calender just ended on that date. Maybe they just ran out of paper, GOD KNOWS!

There are many sources saying that, yes, the Mayans believed that the world would come to an end in 2012. There are many examples of Calendars uncovered to prove this theory. There are a few, however, where the calendars stretch 50-100 years later. Although, there are only a few suggesting this theory. Scientists do not know exactly what was going through the Mayans' heads while making these calendars.

The Mayans did not predict the end of the world. December 21st, 2012 is a significant date in the Mayan calendar which represents the end of the 13th b'ak'tun. After this date a whole new era will begin, but the world will definitely not end. Mayan inscriptions have predicted other significant dates after the 13th b'ak'tun, so they must have know that the world would not end on this date.

No. The mayans just stopped writing their calendar after the winter solsitice of 2012. They probably just got tired of writing. Nothing on the Mayan calendar says that the world is going to end. The Mayans never predicted the end of the world. Current assumptions about their caendar state that because it ends at a given time (which is unknown exactly) it must be the end of the world; this is, as far as we know, completely incorrect. See the related questions.

According to the Mayan calendar the world will end in December 2012. It will be on the 21st or the 23rd depending on which calculation you use. There is also a discrepancy when you try and convert the Mayan time to the Christian calendar, and it has the world ending on 12/24/2011. Most civilized worlds use the Gregorian calendar and it is currently aligned with the Christian calendar now.

No one really knows if the Mayans have determined when the world will end on the 21st of December 2012, or if they were just unable to complete their calender before their time ran out ( the fact that their civilization fell, and the Spanish invaded, but that's another question all together.) People also don't know weather they ended the calender on the 21st of December 2012 due to the fact that it is also the date of the winter solstice.
