∙ 11y agoSmilodon, saber-toothed cats, went extinct about 10,000 years ago. While they were contemporary with people in the Western Hemisphere, it is unlikely that they were over hunted, or even hunted at all. The most likely scenario for the demise of the three species in North and South America was probably brought on by climate change and the die off of their prey, other megafauna of the time period.
