The 13,760kg great bell of the Palace of Westminster clocktower, commonly known as Big Ben, was manufactured at the famous Whitechapel Foundry, London. The cast was so big, it took three furnaces to heat the metel, 20 minutes to pour and 20 days for the metal to solidify and cool.

'Big Ben' is the large bell inside the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster.

The present bell is the second to be named Big Ben. The first bell weighed 16.3-tonne (16 ton) . It was cast on 6 August 1856 in Stockton-on-Tees by John Warner & Sons. It cracked while being test rung prior to the construction of the clock tower. It was recast on 10 April 1858 at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry as a 13.76-tonne (13½ ton) bell. This bell cracked as well (on September 1859) but was repaired and continues to be used.
