My operators manual is dated Oct-1998, which was the last year for this model, but it was manufactured a few years before that.

My tiller is a 917.29311. It is four years old. (2005) Your 917.299751 must be a newer machine than mine. DAL

Not to say that this is the final say, but the manual has a 1998 print date. The engine is a Briggs and the Code on the blower housing will tell you when engine was built in the form of YYMMDDSS where YY is the last two digits of the year, MM the month, DD the day of the month and SS is the shift and factory.

Craftsman pressure washers are made by the brand Craftsman. Craftsman makes a wide variety of tools and home improvement projects.

No. Craftsman , AYP , Husky , whatever have cloned the JD low end model. AYP Craftsman is a decent LAWNMOWER if cared for. A great value. The "Made for BOX STORE John Deere" is not the same one your Pappy plowed the fields with. It is made to compete with the Craftsman. Period. It uses the same engines and transaxles as its competitors, BUT IS NOT MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY. Anybody that says otherwise is WRONG. Buy the Craftsman, keep the extra cash. Move along. ToeCutter.

The first three digits of the model number on a Craftsman Lawn Tractor is a manufacturer's code that tells you who made the product. Sears does not manufacture its own lawn tractors. The lawn tractors are outsourced to many different manufacturers, some in the USA and some in foreign countries.

You can tell the year on a Craftsman by the first six digits of the serial number. They are in groups of two. First two digits are the month, second two digits are the day and the third two digits are the year. Apparently this dose not work for all Craftsman Mowers. My model #917.255520 Has a serial number of 1631S37112 meaning it was made on the 16th month and 31st day of the year 20S3... I think..??

User Avatar

Does not much matter; all models beginning with a "917" model number were manufactured by AYP ( a division of Husqvarna) and riders were made in Orangeburg, SC.

A craftsman lawn mower is a lawn mower made by the retailer craftsman. The main function is to mow your lawn and to cut the grass of your field. They are the best in the business.

Husqvarna, previously American Yard Products. The older (1960's-70's) with the 917 were made by Roper.

User Avatar

The model number does not tell what year it is. If it is a recently made mower the first six digits of the serial number should give you the month, day and year of manufacture.

You will be hard pressed to find one. The machine was made by Magna America. I think that the intellectual property of that defunct company belongs to Toro.
