∙ 9y agoThe rocks that are now seen at the bottom of The Canyon are about two billion years old. However, for most of the time since then, this schist has been buried under under 1000s of meters of other rocks. Indeed, if you had visited the area that is now the Grand Canyon about ten million years ago, you'd have found nothing of particular interest. It has only been in the last in the last five to six million years that any canyon has existed here.
