Wheat pennies were issued from mid-1909 to 1958. The name comes from the reverse side's design that shows the words ONE CENT with an ear of wheat on each side symbolizing America's agricultural power.

Many wheat cents are collectable. Later dates and more common old ones are still quite affordable; some can be bought for less than 25 cents in worn condition.

A red wheat penny is a coined produced in the early 1900's. It had a wheat design on it, because they were produced in the wheat belt area. They turned red because of a chemical reaction occurring from water damage and decay on the alloy.

it is a penny that has wheat on the back of it. they are older pennies

MoreIt's more than just "has wheat". The design consists of the words ONE CENT in large letters and United States of America in smaller letters. On each side there's a representation of a wheat ear, symbolizing America's agricultural power.

Wheat cents were made from mid-1909 to 1958. Some from the 1940s and 1950s occasionally show up in change even today but most of those are only worth a few cents extra. Older ones can be worth anywhere from a dime to many thousands of dollars depending on date, mint mark, and condition.

It refers to Lincoln cents made from 1909 to 1958. The back side had two wheat stalks encircling the words ONE CENT.

The design was changed to the Lincoln Memorial in 1959. That continued until 2008.
