When he realised that the War was lost , her commoitted suicide, by shooting himself with a pistol, and having his body cremated(burned) in the Reichs Chancellery Garden. Admiral Karl Doenitz took brief control of what was left of the Third Reich (Germany), until all the German armies surrendered.
Admiral Doenitz sued for peace, but he had to surrender, and the Allied Powers then controlled/ran Germany for a period of time(years).
