There are a number of references to clouds in The Bible such as in Ecclesiastes 11:3 "If clouds are full of water, they pour rain on the earth".

In the book of Exodus a pillar of cloud traveled with the Israelite people in the desert to guide them during the day (e.g. Exodus 13:21) and was later used to descride God's presence (Exodus 19:9, Exodus 40-34-35).

In the King James Version (KJV) there are 49 references of clouds and 94 references of cloud, mostly found in the Old Testament. Likewise, there are 87 references to rain in the Bible. The counts will vary given the translation; e.g. NIV refers to "cloud" or "clouds" 151 times starting in Genesis 9:13 and ending in Revelation 14:16.

The first mention of clouds is on Mt Sinai, while Moses was talking to God:

Deuteronomy 4.11. And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
