What is the first opening screen on computer called?

That depends on which one you are referring to. It could either
be called the "splash screen" or the "welcome screen". The "splash
screen" is the screen that shows the progress of the operating
system loading. For example, in Windows XP, the splash screen shows
the Windows XP logo, along with a progress bar at the bottom. The
"welcome screen" appears immediately following the splash screen,
and is what allows you to log into your computer after the
operating system finishes booting up.

Why does your computer screen flash black when starting up?

Reason for black screen:
When the computer will not boot up, it sound like it is booting
as the CPU fan is running and the lights are on. It also finds the
CD ROM but it won't boot from a CD either.
Sometimes when you have a computer black screen on startup and
the power switch light will be green and then turns to orange or
amber. Everything is running.
Everything seems to be running but you can't see anything on
the screen, not even a flashing cursor. Your black screen in
Windows has occurred before the Windows logo screen.

Why is laptop screen black but its on?

Well depends on what you mean by on and screen black. There
could be a few different things that cause this. The most popular
answer would be the LCD screen and or back light are back on the
computer, or there is a hardware issue with the CPU, Motherboard,
or Video card preventing the computer from booting, but the lights
on the laptop still come on, in which case, it would be on but not
booting.
The quickest way to tell what the issue possible could be is to
hook up an external monitor/TV to your computer. If you see
something on those, then the issue would be the LCD Screen, if you
dont see anything, then the issue would be hardware related and at
that point, either buy a new one or bring it to an repair shop

Why is my screen blank when booting up your laptop?

If your laptopscreen does not show anything - not even a
manufacturers/microsoft logo during start-up, it is likely your
screen is broken.
If your laptopscreen shows a very faint picture, it is likely
the backlight of your laptop screen is broken / disconnected.
If however, everything is normal, up to when you would normally
see your login screen, but then your screen goes black, it is
likely to be a setting on your computer, which you yourself can
fix.
