Whenever you either a) have a job offer in the US with a company that is willing to sponsor you. b) have a fiance or spouse that is willing to sponsor you. c) win the green card lottery (bear in mind some countries do not qualify for this lottery). d) have any immediate family ie: sister, mother, etc that is willing to sponsor you. All of these options require a mountain of time consuming paper workand more often than not they have about 50 different visa's for the same thing. It's usually best to look up all of the different visas available through US Immigration and see which one fits your situation best. Or ask an immigration lawyer, sometimes the internet explanations get overwhelming and confusing.

∙ 12y agoThe applicant should be 18 years and older with green card for a period of minimum 5 years continuous physical residence. Its 3 years for those who have married a US citizen and continue to do so.For persons in the US Army minimum 1 year of service qualify them to apply for US citizenship.

∙ 12y agoApplicants applying for US Citizenship must have maintained continuous residence in the United States for at least five years immediately preceding the applicant's filing for citizenship with immigration Form N-400. Continuous residence is not the same thing as physically being present in the United States. An applicants must maintain status as a legal permanent resident (green card holder), but does not necessarily have to be physically in the United States to accomplish this.

In order to be eligible to file you should be at least of 18 years of age and a green card holder in the US who has continuous physical residence of minimum 5 years.
