Under the reign of Henry the eighth, who wanted a divorce from his wife, Katherine of Aragon.

The Church came first to Britain some months after the Crucifixion of Christ in 37AD. That is if we can believe the Bishops of the Medieval Councils of the 13 & 14th, Centuries! It was simply known as the Church in Britain and later in about 680 AD there was a new grouping set up of both Celtic and Saxon Catholics. The only difference it made was to use a liturgy and Ceremonial to bring the Church in line with the Continental practices. It was just about this time that the usage Anglican came in to use. Ecclesia Anglicana was translated as either The Church in England or the Church of England!
