It depends partly on what the walls are made of. Books are very heavy, so shelves must be strong. I prefer to drill into the wall (preferably where studs are in a wallboard wall) and insert 3" long dowels to fit matching holes in the back of the shelves, then after inserting the shelves, fit one or two wood supports ( matching the shelves) onto the front of the shelves. I have built many bookshelves this way, my latest holding over 1,200 pounds of books on 5 shelves.
Brackets are the standard method of affixing floating shelves to the wall. A screw is used to secure the bracket to the wall, and then the shelf is screwed onto the bracket. This ensures the stability of the shelf and its continued use. However, there are minor distinctions based on factors like the wall material and the shelf's intended load. If you're having trouble selecting which bracket might work best for you, it's a good idea to consult an expert.

First, find where you want to put the shelves. Then take a rail and mark through the holes onto the wall with a pencil. Now, put the rail away and set an anchor into the marks, and align the rails with the anchors. Drill a screw through the middle part of the rail into the adjacent anchor, and make sure the rail is straight. Do these steps for each anchor, and decide how wide you want your second rail to be. Install it the same way you did for the first rail. Now, slide the brackets into the rail where you want them to be. Make sure the brackets are placed in the same places on the left and right rail. Now, set your shelves onto the brackets.
The distributers are the middlemen between the record labels and the retail outlets. A poor distribution deal gets your CD onto store shelves that no one goes to. A good deal will put your CD on shelves of popular chains.
