Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in 2005. It was becoming more financially and militarily cumbersome to maintain settlements and Israeli police in that territory than its desirability as part of the Jewish State.
It does not seem probable that Israel will take back the Gaza Strip in the near future.
While there are divergent views on this, most foreign policy analysts agree that Israel does NOT have any serious interest in controlling the Gaza Strip from a settlement or annexation point of view.
