When did Judas die?

N/a

Answer:

Judas Iscariot died shorthly before Christ's crucifixion in the year 31 AD.

Answer
Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ to the Pharisees, and then he hmself committed suicide soon afterwards. Although the exact date is unknown, it can be estimated from the time of Christ's death. The date Christ died was April 10th, 32AD [see Sir Robert Anderson in "The Coming Prince"]

Judas betrayed Christ for 30 pieces of silver:-

Matthew 26
v.14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, "What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you?" And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he
[Judas] sought opportunity to betray him.

Judas received this betrayal money after Christ was delivered to the Pharisees, but this would have been before the rigged trials that same morning which found Christ guilty and sentenced Him to death.

Matthew 27:
1 When the morning was come [that is, morning of Passover] , all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

When Judas knew that Jesus was condemmed to death he tried to return the money before Christ was crucified, let alone died, or else the Scriptures would have said this specifically. (It would appear Judas had not thought Christ would be actually sentenced to death and tried to return the money in the vain hope of getting Christ a less-severe penalty. However, the Pharisees had what they wanted and were not going to renege on any agreement).

Matthew 27:

3 Then Judas, which had betrayeth him, when he saw that he [that is, Christ] was condemned [that is, it was the very same day], repented himself [other translations 'was remorseful' or similar], and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 Saying, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? see thou to that".
5 And he [Judas] cast down the pieces of silver in the temple...

Even Pilate said Jesus did not warrant the death penalty:-

Luke 23
v.21 But they [the crowd] cried, saying, "Crucify him, crucify him".
22 And he [that is, Pilate] said unto them the third time, "Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go".

Judas was full of remorse [NB he did not repent] for what he had caused that he went and hanged himself. This would appear to be immediately after he flung the betrayal money back at the priests.

Matthew 27:

5 And he [Judas] cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

This would make the date Judas died was April 10th, 32AD .
