In 1965 the Pillsbury Doughboy, more formally "Poppin' Fresh," made his television debut in a commercial for Pillsbury's crescent rolls. Not sure how much earlier than the commercial, but at least in 1965.

Is a cinnamon roll a finger food?

YES! do you really eat cinnamon rolls with a fork? the more efficient and effective way to properly eat a cinnamon roll is to tear it by pieces and making your way to the middle. it is a waste of a clean fork to use it on your cinnamon roll. if you are afraid it's UNCLEAN, it's called washing your hands. you are supposed to wash your hands after you eat every meal anyways. this is not an opinionated answer to this question. there is only one answer and the answer is yes.
