it was in 1170
it was because Thomas Becket an Henry II had an argument( not sure when) and Henry II then decided that he had enough and mad the Archbishop of York do the honour when actually it was supposed to be Thomas Becket (the Archbishop of Canterbury's) job.
In Thomas Beckett's absence (he and the king were quarreling), Henry II had the Archbishop of York perform the pre-coronation of his heir, Henry (who died before his father). This was normally the job of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Beckett, and he was furious when he returned. Rather than letting bygones be bygones, Beckett excommunicated The Archbishop of York and threatened an interdict on England. Here is where Henry supposedly delivered his famous line, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?"
Here is a sentence for King Henry VIII. King Henry was the son of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII of England.
Richard III of the House of York was king until he was killed (aged 32) at the Battle of Bosworth Field, on 22nd August 1485. He was succeeded by the first Tudor king, Henry VII who usurped the crown upon the death of Richard III.
Henry VII, aka Henry Tudor, died on April 22, 1509 at age 52 from lung disease (possibly tuberculosis) at Richmond Palace, Surrey. His son, Henry VIII, succeeded him peacefully, with no immediate rival to challenge the crown. Henry VII, became King by defeating King Richard III, in the battle of Bosworth 1485. He had a very weak claim to the throne from his mother's side, but as Richard had no heirs and Henry had defeated him in battle he was able to usurp the throne. Henry was a Lancastrian and Richard was of York. Henry's mother made a promise with Elizabeth Woodville that when Henry becomes king he'd marry Elizabeth of York (Edward IV's daughter) therefore, uniting the two households of York and Lancaster. Richard was rumoured to have killed his nephews that dissapeared (the Princes in the Tower) and this made him look like a power-hungry, cruel, usurper, therefore increasing Henry's chances of becoming King. Support from France and from the south of England also helped him defeat Richard at the battle of Bosworth.
In 1170 Henry ordered the archbishop of york to crown the next king. this meant to be the archbishops of Canterbury's job! Becket was furious .

While he was still king of England, Henry II's son was crowned co-regent by the Archbishop of York, June 1170.
King Henry II got angry because Thomas Becket betrayed him by kicking out all the loyal people in the church of England and also kicked out the Archbishop of York. So king Henry II sent out knights to search and to kill Thomas Becket. Then King Henry II tried to stop the nights but it was too late. So that is why King Henry II got angry with Thomas Becket.
With King Henry of the Lancaster line dead, and no remaining York contenders for the throne, the crown went to Henry VII. Henry was technically of the Lancaster line, though he was also connected, just as loosely, to the York line. This began the rule of the Tudor's in England.
Thomas Becket expelled the Barons, Bishops and Archbishop of York, because he was furious with them for supporting the King while he was hiding from Henry II. See the related link below.
