The Dust Bowl was also known as the Dirty Thirties, coming in three waves- 1934, 1936, and 1939-1940. However, some areas of the High Plains (a sub-region of the Great Plains) had the drought conditions for eight years straight.

The dust bowl was a massive drought that affected the high plains regions of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, among others, throughout the 1930s, resulting in rural abandonement in those states and migration to California.

The American dust bowl was a series of dust storms in the prairie or plains lands in the US and Canada. It lasted from about 1930 to 1936 and as long as 1940 in some areas. It was caused by poor farming techniques that didn't include rotating crops and they wiped out most of the native prairie grasses and wildflowers that had been there for eons. This was coupled with a drought that caused a lot of erosion. The result was the soil was blown away in huge thick dust clouds. The dust bowl caused a lot of ecological and agricultural damage and many people left Oklahoma and Texas.
