UK female singing group 'Girls Aloud' emerged in 2002, having formed to appear on a UK TV talent program. Their performance of 'Sound of the Underground' as finalists in the November 30, 2002 show won them the public's vote.
Two weeks later, on December 16, 2002 they released their winning song as their debut single. It became an immediate success. Over 600,000 copies of Sound of the Underground were produced, gaining the girls a British Phonographic Industry 'platinum' music award.
Girls Aloud went on to make many more hit records, and to being listed in the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records for the "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group."
Their album The Sound of Girls Aloud has sold over 1,000,000 copies.
