Why was the enlarge homestead act passed
Homestead Act:160 acre of land to a citizen who cultivated the land for five years after the initial claim. Passed by Congress on 1862, was land grants to railroads. 1st done by Abraham Lincoln Morrill Act: land grant given to STATES to finance agricultural and mechanical colleges. The Morill act was for states to produce colleges with the land given, where as the homestead act was given to a citizen who promised to cultivate the land for 5 years.

The passage of the Homestead Act. This provided incentives for people to take up farming in places such as Oklahoma and the Great Plains in general. This eventually became a problem between white settlers and Native Americans. President Lincoln was very much interested in this plan to have more settlers move westward.

The Homestead Act was a popular program signed into law by US President Abraham Lincoln. For only $12, people who wanted to settle out west could have 160 acres of land if they promised to remain there and work the land. It was not a real factor in Lincoln'd reelection, but it added to him ,more votes over Democrat George B. McClellan in the 1864 presidential election.
