  • The first Jewish-Roman war began in 66 A.D. and lasted until 73 A.D.
  • In 67 A.D., Vespasian and his forces suppressed Israel's Northern armies.
  • In 69 A.D., Vespasian seized the throne and by 70 A.D., the Romans had fully occupied Jerusalem.
  • in 73 A.D., the last of Israel's resistance was defeated by the Roman army at the mountain fortress of Masada, where the last 967 defending Israelis committed suicide rather than be captured and tortured, sold into slavery or die by the hands of the Romans.
  • In 132 A.D., the Kokhba's Revolt began, led by Simon bar Kokhba and an independent state in Israel was declared.
  • By 135 A.D., the revolt was suppressed by the Romans, who were seeking to renounce the names "Judaea" and "Jerusalem", and who then, reorganized the state as part of the province of Syria-Palestine.

Hebrew is the name of a language, not a people. Therefore there was no such thing as the Hebrews or a Roman conquest of the Hebrews . There were (as still are the Jews). The Romans did not actually conquer Judea. In 63 B.C. the Roman general Pompey the Great was asked to arbitrate ion a civil war between two brothers who were fighting over the throne of Judea. Pompey supported one of the brothers and Judea became a client state of Rome, but continued to be ruled by its own kings. In 10 A.D. the emperor Augustus annexed Judea. However, this was not a conquest and there were no battles. Augustus did this because he was asked to do so by the Jews, who were fed up with their king and their royal dynasty. Later the relationship between the Jews and the Roman turned sour.
