Contrasting sources say that the first franchise in Canada (Barney's Kentucky Fried Chicken, also known as Barney's), opened in Calgary on Centre street in 1953.
Different claims are understandable, since many restaurants started selling the chicken before actual franchises were opened, so start dates could be confused.
