August 1, 1987. Previous to this purchase of beer ONLY was legal to those born before August 1, 1968; they were "grandfather claused" in. This means there was a period of time in Ohio where one 19 year old could continue to buy beer, while one born the same year would be denied.
I know this firsthand because I was born July 7, 1968; I was able to buy beer at 19, while several of my friends the exact same age could not.

∙ 13y agoThe present ( 2010 ) age is 19 , Ontario lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18 in the summer of 1971. I know because my eldest brother's 21st birthday was on June 23 , 1971 , and the drinking age was lowered that summer, much to his chagrin.

∙ 12y agoMichigan's legal drinking age was changed from 21 to 18 in 1972. This took place because the "Age of Majority" was changed to 18 that year. Since a person was legally responsible for him/lherself at age 18, it was argued that they should be allowed to purchase alcohol.
It was upped to age 19 on Dec 3 1978, then changed back to age 21 on December 21st of the same year; just 18 days later.
