During the concecration of the Eucharist during the mass, the bread and wine becomes the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Holy Communion. It is partaking in the body and blood of Christ to confirm your belief in Jesus as your Holy savior.
Consubstantial is the heretical belief of Lutherans that the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ exist along with the bread and wine for the duration of the Communion service, ceasing to exist, along with the bread and wine, when the service is over.
The Catholic Church believes that the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is not a symbol, but it is actually Jesus himself. He is hidden in the form of bread so he can be with us. On the Last Supper, he did say "This is my body, which will be given up for you...This is my blood, which will be given up for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
I believe as well that another point which needs to be stressed here regards the issue of transubstantiation vs. consubstantiation. Lutherans as I recall do not believe in transubstantiation or the concept that at communion the "Lord's supper" literaly becomes the body and blood of Jesus as we observe and particiate in that act of worship. As I recall, Luther belived in consubstantion....not that the wine and bread literally became Jesus' body within us, but that at that observance there was at least a "presence" of the Holy Spirit there.
the body is the body of jesus and blood is jesus blood... ! :))
