When do you change the knock sensor on Subaru?
When is sends a code to the ECM that it is malfunctioning. Usually a PO 325 but the codes are slightly different depending on the model and year. You can get a complete Subaru PO listing if you Google it. If there is no code, your knock sensor is fine.
If Subaru Impreza WRX 1995 has started to knock pinging Detonation l think it might be the knock sensor but the engine management light is staying off?
Knock sensor The knock sensor for a 1996 Nissan Altima is located on the backside of the block above the oil filter. But before you go and change it out, run a tank of the best/hightest rated gas you can find and see if that fixes the problem. On my 1995 the Knock sensor is located under the plenum and intake manifold on top of the middle of the block.
The knock sensor is just behind the intake manifold on the top of the engine. It is a few inches below the manifold and all you will see is a bolt with what looks like a very thick washer on it with wires coming out of it. The knock sensor appearance has been described as a small donut. Easiest to see while leaning over the left front fender using a flashlight.
I believe the knock sensor is housed at the top of the oil pump. It should be visibly located under the alternator. It's wire should share the same main cable routing as the oil pressure sending unit which is just above the knock sensor and under the left side of the alternator when standing in front of the car. Nothing posotive here, don't quote me
