You should feed your hamster once or twice a day. Put two spoonfuls of hamster food in its bowl, if it is empty in about an hour, don't worry it won't starve. It likes to store its food up, as they are used to doing that in the wild. When it becomes empty and your hamster starts to look upset and bored (starts to bite its cage) then refill its bowl.

∙ 14y agoGive it soft and mushy items. Or make hard items into a mush. I have had a toothless hamster for almost a year. We grind hamster food into a powder in our Vita Mix dry ingredients blender. I think you can do this in a food processor or regular blender. Feed the hamster this powdered food. Also feed other soft foods, such as scrambled eggs, applesauce, mashed banana, baby food....whatever your little guy likes!

In the first couple of weeks they nurse but when they're ready they will eat regular hamster food.

Yes, you should. Unless you want your cage to be smelt of death. I left my dead baby hamster for a a few hours to allow the mother and her other babies to feed on the dead baby --- this gives proteins, nutrients and energy to the Mama hamster and keeps her healthy and nourished so that she can feed her babies with enough milk. After that, I removed the dead baby hamster. If you can not tolerate the gruesomeness of it, I suggest you remove it before the guts spill. But, it's good to give the mother more nutrients.
