You will find in the tread of all tyres that there is a little piece of rubber which crosses the tread itself.
When the tyre is new, and the groove part of the tread is OK, this mark will be seen at the bottom of the grooved section of your tyre.
when the trye is worn, the grooved section of the tyre is very shallow and outer surface of the tyre (the part in contact with the road) is level with this mark, the tread depth has reached 6mm and has to be replaced.
