Atticus tells Jem that it's a sin To Kill a Mockingbird because they don't harm anyone and only bring beauty through their song. He uses this analogy to teach Jem and Scout about the importance of protecting the innocent and vulnerable in society.

because mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for all of us to enjoy and they don't eat people gardens of make nest in corn cribs they just sing.
If you look at it, Hes talking about really the widespread racism of Maycomb. Tom Robinson is a mocking bird and they do shoot him. So its really symbolicly around that.
because they don't do anything but sing for us, and they don't harm anything, so if we kill them, we are killing something that's completely innocent.

Atticus told Jem it was a sin to kill mockingbird's because a mockingbird only makes music for people to enjoy. It doesn't do anything to harm anyone. I know this because we are studing this book for my Freshman Honors English class.

Atticus says that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because all they do is sing. They never did anything to anyone, so nobody should do anything harmful to them. It symbolizes the character Boo Radley, because people misjudge him so much for things that he didn't even do; he is like a mockingbird because he never did anything wrong. Some people think it's also symbolizing Tom Robinson, because he is unfairly accused in his court case when he didn't really do anything wrong.

He is trying to explain to his children that it is not right to kill something that didn't do anything wrong. He is using the mockingbird to represent Tom Robinson.
