Nintendo keeps pushing back the release date, but they have announced that the game is in its final stages. Though they have not named a specific date for Skyward Sword's release, they have stated that it will be sometime after the release of Ocarina of Time for 3DS which was released on June 16 (Japan) and June 19 (US).

You'll find out, if you actually play it, that in this game Link quests to forge the master sword with three fire's of the goddesses and Zelda decides to live on the surface instead of the sky, effectively establishing the kingdom of Hyrule as we know it in many of the Zelda games.
